Drums from Martinique and Cuba mingle with rhythms of Turkey and Bulgaria in the sound of the Julian Gerstin Sextet. Living in Martinique for two years, Julian studied the traditional tanbou drum, played with both hands and one foot. In the Sextet he brings this drum (and many others) to a jazz setting. With Anna Patton, clarinet; Don Anderson, bass; Eugene Uman, piano; Wes Brown, bass; Ben James, drum set; and Julian Gerstin, percussion and composer.
